Xerox Exotique #054: Elefante Branco – 27.11.2019

Elefante Branco (White Elephant) is the solo project of electroacoustic improvisation developed by the sound artist Marcelo Armani that has as its base and concepts the fields of concrete music, minimalist and experimental music. The project is born in 2013 when the artist feels the need to use a series of sounds and noises from the recording of different sound landscapes captured in urban and natural soundscapes. The great part of this material results from actions performed by the artist himself for the production and composition of both pieces and multi-channel sound installations. They are cutouts. Fragments of sounds and noise produced by motor vehicles, trains, subway, voices, birds, insects, storms, rain, electromagnetic processes, construction tools and industrial, domestic and cinematographic machines. In live sound performances, the artist, under the name of Elefante Branco, produces in real time a series of compositions using these fragments that are converted into small samplers and fired by electronic equipment. Other textures generated by analog / digital synthesizers, sequencers and effects are incorporated into the clippings of this sound landscape for the production of layers and textures that explore the variation of frequencies, amplitudes and timbres. The intention is to propose the perception of volumes, surfaces and sonic spatialities that express sensations of densities, lightness, granulations, tensions, rhythms and environments that run through dimensional orders from micro to macro.

Xerox Exotique #053: META MEAT – Suceurs de ChĂšvre du Centre de la Hesse – 17.10.2019

Both electronic musicians and composers, Somekilos (half of 2kilos &More) and Phil Von (co-leader of Von Magnet) also share a passion for percussions and rhythms.Their common project entitled META MEAT associates the source of flesh (MEAT) with its passage beyond (META).
META MEAT is a very physical live act bound to propel our bodies and souls into another state, a state of release and trance, incarnating a wish to elevate our animality towards a higher conscience of being. The duo fights together a vibrant duel. Their joined skills and energies combine real drumming & beating (Somekilos), real stamping & banging (Phil Von) together battling against twisted virtual synths samples & machines. The electronic sounds being treated as radically as the acoustic percussions played by the two musicians, the musical result turns out sounding utterly “tribal”.

Xerox Exotique #052: GUIGUISUISUI – EMERGE – 23.07.2019

GUIGUISUISUI éŹŒéŹŒç„Ÿç„Ÿ is a two piece art-rock performance band. Curated by Chinese artist Nan Guazi and her British husband, Guiguisuisui blends electronic and live sounds to create the backdrop for interactive theatre performances which feature a cast of characters from an imagined future and past. Over the top of this Nan Guazi’s live animations are projected onto the stage; animated steampunk fairytales that add to the ethereal quality of the performance. The show has toured relentlessly since it’s beginnings in 2012, with gigs in China, Taiwan, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe (UK, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Poland). In 2016 they were presented with the ‘Band of the Year’ award at City Weekend – Beijing’s annual awards show – as well as being featured on the cover of 通俗 歌 æ›Č (‘tong su ge qu’) magazine, China’s longest running rock and roll magazine. The Shining Soundscape concept is the latest manifestation of the bands’ experiences to date: an artistic performance that combines both live digital video painting and improvised ambient music, to create a backdrop over which performance and meditative chanting combine with electronic music, in a meeting of minds and cultures.
